London teenager Archy Marshall might possess the standard emotional qualms that inevitably come with the entrance into adulthood—loneliness, acceptance and being taken seriously—but Marshall is able to translate these emotions into a creative outlet with eloquence and poise. King Krule (formerly Zoo Kid), Marshall’s one-man band, creates emotive songs with yearning vocals that echo and reverberate, lending them the feeling that the singer is entirely alone and encapsulated by vast, empty space. With the addition of Brit pop style guitars, new wave synth and a lo-fi intimacy, Marshall produces what he calls “bluewave” music that has provided King Krule with much positive acclaim.
