Bill T. Jones is considered to be one of the more influential dancers and choreographers active today. His work has led to several honorary doctorates from prestigious universities and such respected accolades as the MacArthur "Genius" grant in 1994. His style is loose and expressive, respecting impulsive movement over calculated steps. In 2008, he co-created and directed the off-Broadway production, Fela!, which dealt with the life of Nigerian musician Fela Kuti. For his efforts, Jones was rewarded with the Best Choreography award at the 2010 Tony Awards.
