Damien Dempsey is an Irish folk songwriter who blurs the edges of the folk genre by incorporating hip-hop and reggae rhythms as well as traditional Irish melodies into his music. Starting with his 2000 debut album They Don't Teach This Shit in School, he has been painting his signature sound with politically driven lyrics focused on social and governmental structures in Ireland. Dempsey released his sixth studio album Almighty Love, in 2012.
