With members hailing from London, Hiroshima and New Jersey, Yuck is certainly a diverse band. Formed in 2009 after the breakup of indie British band Cajun Dance Party, the five-piece showcases a departure from the upbeat tracks of founders Max Bloom and Daniel Blumberg's previous band. Instead the band turns up the reverb, brings out the melancholy, relies on boy-girl harmonies and scoffs at the polished production aesthetic of its predecessor. While Yuck fits nicely into the lo-fi scene listeners are slowly growing weary of, it does incorporate fairly epic Sonic Youth inspired drones on certain tracks that represent the band's potential to break out of the dying genre.
