Italian singer and lyricist Alessandro Mahmoud goes by the stage name Mahmood. He rose to fame when he participated in the 2012 edition of the Italian show The X Factor. After being eliminated in the third episode, he went on to study music and write his own songs. He debuted with the single "Fallin' Rain" in 2013. Mahmood released his first EP titled Gioventù bruciata in 2018. He won the Sanremo Music Festival with the single "Soldi" in 2019 which led to him representing Italy and placed second in the 2019 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest.
