While Jim Messina, formerly of Buffalo Springfield and Poco, was working as an independent record producer for Columbia Records in Los Angles during the early 1970s, he discovered an unknown singer/songwriter named Kenny Loggins. When the two started jamming and singing together, they found that their vocal styles matched extremely well and decided to form a two man band. Releasing a string of albums throughout the '70s gave the duo credibility amongst pop music fans who would come to call music made by Loggins and Messina "yacht rock."
