Ethereal, shadowy and full of building, unfulfilled crescendos, the music of New York producer Balam Acab, born Alec Koone, is both eerie and impressive. Rooted in the trendy witch house movement, made popular by bands like Salem and oOoOO--despite the bold proclamation on his Myspace page that there are "NO WITCHES IN THIS HOUSE!"--Balam Acab is akin to the electronica soundtrack of a horror film, slowed to half speed. Conceived in 2008, when Koone was a freshman in college, Balam Acab has since received mass critical acclaim for his creative mashup of internet samples turned into haunting drones.
