Premiered in 1947, Macbeth is an operatic production by Giuseppe Verdi presented in four acts which was first written for the Teatro della Pergola in Florence. The opera, based on a play of the same name by William Shakespeare, revolves around the story of Macbeth, a Scottish general who is told a life-changing prophecy by a group of witches. Lady Macbeth, filled with political ambition for her husband, goes to extreme lengths so as to secure the throne of Scotland and to prevent the prophecy from being realized. The characters experience a series of events that in the end coincide perfectly with the prophecy. Verdi's Macbeth is a true classic portrayed in the form of beautiful melodies, characterized by murder, revenge, betrayal and a lust for power.
