Most people associate psychedelic rock with drugs, flower power and music that wanders into abstract territory with lengthy instrumental solos, lurch-like drumming and indiscernible vocals. These people most likely think that the quintessential psychedelic rock band was The Grateful Dead. While the Dead could be considered part of this erst genre, most of the groups that truly emerged out of the psychedelic rock movement of the 60s were extremely pop-friendly bands with jangly guitar riffs, catchy choruses and radio appropriate lyrics. While this style of music experienced its heyday decades ago, there are still a few groups influenced by the genre that crank out respectable modern day psychedelic rock. One such outfit is the Welsh group Race Horses. The band was formed in 2005 and has experienced moderate success around England. As the group continues to tour and crank out polished LPs, its notoriety on the music circuit with surly continue to grow.
