World music supergroup that has been 14 years in the making, AfroCubism is a collective of musicians from Cuba and Mali, featuring members of Buena Vista Social Club, legendary collaborator (and Barack Obama's alleged favorite musician) Toumani Diabaté, ngoni virtuoso Bassekou Kouyate and others. The group's music, as expected, fuses traditional African and Cuban music, most notably the the traditional Mali pop called Bajourou and the music of Cuban dance halls called Guaracha; the result is a tropical afro-beat that is both mysterious and welcoming. As the band's lineup is composed of numerous legendary musicians, all worth seeing live, seeing the whole band together is an opportunity not to be missed.
