One of Spain’s oldest clubs, Gimnástica de Torrelavega was formed in 1907. Up until 1925, the club only played friendly games. After almost two decades of its formation, the club entered the professional leagues by competing in regional competitions. The club first played on a national level in 1929 when it gained entry into the Tercera Division. The club was promoted to Segunda Division in 1939. The team’s position has fluctuated between Tercera and Segunda divisions quite a few times during the course of its history. Gimnástica de Torrelavega plays its home matches at the El Malecón.
