Written by the English playwright Jim Cartwright, Two offers a glance into the pub culture of North England, fashioned such that only two actors can take on multiple characters. It encourages its spectators to look at life the way one would look at a tavern, where one gets to interact with people from all walks of life. Set over the course of one evening, this engaging and bitter-sweet comedy depicts life's pains and pleasures through the pub's patrons. The pub's owners - referred to as 'Landlord' and 'Landlady' - are the heart of the story. The play concludes with them coming to terms with the hand that life has dealt them. First staged at the Young Vic Theatre, London, Two has been the recipient of the Manchester Evening News Theatre Award for Best New Play.
