From a young age, Amon Tobin was exposed to a vast amount of cultural sounds. He was born in Brazil, at age 9 moved to Morocco with his family, then the Netherlands, London, Portugal, and finally Madeira Island. When he began to compose electronic music, the various cultures he was exposed to popped their heads out in interesting ways. Primarily known for being a sample maestro, Tobin takes cuts from albums and molds them with other sounds to create original tracks that often sound indistinguishable from their original samples. His knack for composing instrumentally rich tracks solidified his reputation as a premier electronic musician in the 1990s, and as Tobin keeps experimenting with new sounds and musical technology, he continues to be one of the more respected electronic beat-smiths of his generation.
