Set in 1903 in St. Louis, MO, the musical follows the Smith family as they wait in anticipation of the World’s Fair. Meet Me In St. Louis, adapted from the MGM film’s 1994 movie of the same name premiered in 1988 in the George Gershwin Theater of Broadway playing 252 performances before closing in 1990. Ever since then, the musical has been enacted on multiple stages including Off-Broadway and regional theater. Meet Me In St. Louis debuted in St. Louis in 2009 and was well received by the home crowd. The original Broadway production was nominated for the Tony awards on many fronts and also won the Theater World Award. With lyrics by Ralph Blane and Hugh Martin, melodies like “Raving Beauty” and “Boy Next Door” have continuously brought joy to the audience.
