Ruddigore is a comedic opera that centers around antiquated English courting ceremonies and society's push for women to get married despite them not wanting to. With music by Arthur Sullivan and libretto by W.S. Gilbert as one of the fourteen comic operas they wrote together as Gilbert and SUllivan, Ruddigore premiered at the Savoy Theatre in London on January 22, 1887.
