The Rio Ave Football Club is based in the village of Vila do Conde just north of Porto. The team is named after the river Ave that flows through town and its home colors are green and white. The Vilacondenses, as they are affectionately known, play in the Portuguese Primeira Liga and though the team has never won the coveted title, it went to the Taça de Portugal final in 1983, where the team lost to F.C. Porto. The club takes the pitch at the Estádio do Rio Ave, which has a capacity of 12,815.
