A team with a rich history, FC Lokomotive Leipzig is vastly supported by passionate local football fans. Originally established in 1896 as VfB Leipzig, the team was vastly successful in its early years, but was at its peak in the 1970s and 1980s. The formation of the modern day Bundesliga, pushed the team to second tier of the league, however a spell of misfortune led to the team being bankrupted in 2004. Under new ownership, a new identity and a new name - 1. FC Lokomotive, the team began its journey all over again in the bottom most tier a year later, but gradually rose to Regionalliga Nordost(IV) in 2016.
