The Associação Académica de Coimbra is the oldest sports club in Portugal. It began in 1887 when two older university clubs merged. Since then it has remained a beloved team to both the city of Coimbra and its university. The team plays in the Portuguese Primeira Liga and takes the pitch in the Estádio Cidade de Coimbra which has a capacity of 30,000. AAC won the Taça de Portugal in 1939 and 2012, however it has had little success within the Top-Flight league since team play began in 1934.
