Oumou Sangaré is a Grammy-Award winning Malian singer who writes Wassoulou music and is affectionately referred to as The Songbird of Wassoulou. She recorded her first album Moussolou which was very successful in Africa. Her other albums include Worotan, Ko Sira, Mogoya and Oumou. Sangare writes songs in which she often addresses issues related to gender equality, feminism, and the societal pressures faced by women in general. She is a firm advocate for women's rights and passionately opposes child marriages and oppression of women.
