Written in 1982 by acclaimed French writer, Marguerite Duras, The Malady of Death tells the story of a man who is desperate to know what it is to love. A man invites a woman to spend a few weeks with him at a hotel on the beach, with the intention to fall in love with her and to finally feel love himself. In the end, the woman proclaims that it is impossible because he has a "malady of death."
