Coming from a family of actors, it was only natural for Matthias Schweighöfer to pursue acting from a young age. As early as 2000, Schweighöfer began winning awards for acting in German television and films. He is best known to non-German audiences for his role alongside Tom Cruise in the American movie Valkerie. This role brought him to the international stage and also gave Schweighöfer more opportunities for English-speaking roles. As his career developed he also ventured out to producing and directing films. Since 2014 Schweighöfer has been producing music: delicate and often emotional songs sung in his native German. In 2017 he released his debut album Lachen, Weinen, Tanzen, followed by a short tour throughout Germany.
