Portadown is a semi-professional club that is one of the twelve competitors in the NIFL Championship. It was founded in 1887 in the Irish town of Portadown as a junior team that wanted to compete in the Mid-Ulster Cup. It certainly managed to achieve much more than it initially hoped for. It won its first Mid-Ulster Cup in 1899, and by 2003, it had a spectacular total of 22 cups. One of its biggest achievements would be winning the Irish League. The club is popular for the intense rivalry that it shares with Glentoran and Glenavon. Portadown plays its home games at Shamrock Park.
