The semi-professional football club, Newry City A.F.C., was formed in 2013 to fill the void left by Newry City F.C. This Irish club is based in the city of Newry and uses The Showgrounds stadium for its home games. It debuted in the Mid-Ulster Football League. But by delivering top-notch performances consistently it achieved tremendous progress within a course of a few years. In 2017, it made its way into the NIFL Championship and is still a competitor in this league. The club has a Mid Ulster Football League Intermediate-A title and a Premier Cup to its credit.
