Club Deportivo Veracruz, commonly referred to as Tiburones Rojos, was established in 1943 through the amalgamation of two local teams in Veracruz. The club swiftly emerged as a prominent entity in Mexican football, securing its inaugural league championship during the 1945–46 season and achieving an impressive 14–0 victory against Monterrey in the 1949–50 season. Nevertheless, the club encountered various challenges, including financial difficulties that resulted in several relegations, the most recent of which took place in 2008. In the years that followed, Veracruz continued to grapple with financial instability, ultimately leading to their disaffiliation from Liga MX in December 2019. Over the course of its history, the club has been home to distinguished players such as René Higuita and Cuauhtémoc Blanco, and it has maintained a fierce rivalry with Puebla, known as El Clásico Del Sur. Despite experiencing both triumphs and setbacks, Veracruz's legacy is marked by two Primera División titles and two Copa MX titles, supported by a dedicated fan base and a rich heritage in Mexican football.
