1. FC Magdeburg is a football club from Magdeburg that competes in the 3. Liga. One of the former members of the DDR-Oberliga, the club has a glorious past and is only club from East Germany to ever win a European Cup Winner’s Cup. Formed in 1965, 1. FC Magdeburg was a dominant force in the DDR-Oberliga and shared a strong rivalry with SG Dynamo Dresden. However, post the unification of Germany, the club has struggled to make its way into the Bundesliga and has only featured in the lower divisions.
