The Latvian football club, FK Jelgava, is one of the nine competitors that go head to head against each other in the Virslīga. The club was formed in 2004 when two clubs, RAF Jelgava and FK Viola, decided to play as a single force. FK Jelgava made its debut in the 1. Līga, and within a few years, in 2009, it claimed the title. This milestone-victory opened the doors of the top-league to the club for the first time. The club is based in the city of Jelgava and plays its home games at the Zemgales Olimpiskais centrs complex.
