The Royale is a play written by Marco Ramirez that tells the story of African American boxer Jay "The Sport" Jackson. Set in 1905, The Royale revolves around the struggle Jackson endures outside of the ring as he plots and negotiates with the white reigning titleholder to recognize him as a worthy opponent.
