In Napucalisse, playwright/author Mimmo Borelli pays homage to the great city of Naples, its people and the menacing, dormant volcano of Vesuvius. Borelli's depiction of Naples reveals everything about the city, from its riches to its impoverishment, its crime and culture as well as the intrinsically dangerous relationship with the sleeping volcano only miles away. Napucalisse also juxtaposes the effect each one has on the other, with the constant encroachment of people around Vesuvius and the precarious nature of everyday life in Naples, Borelli aptly presents the inextricable past and future between man and volcano.
