This comedy roughly translated as The Mistress of the Inn takes place in Florence and it presents an epic battle between the sexes in which Mirandolina, the deceased innkeeper's daughter, juggles the desire of three different courtiers in addition to one indifferent misogynist. Mirandolina promised her father to marry the lowly inn servant Fabrizio, however the wealthy Count of Albafiorita and the poor Marquis di Forlipopoli vie for her affections through their respective charms. As all three men stumble haplessly in their courtship of Mirandolina, she finds pleasure in the fact that none of the men will obtain her hand in marriage. As the fourth man walks in, the Baron Ripafratta, he is oblivious to her charms and feigned affection at first, but over time he finally relents as well. The final act presents Mirandolina as she admonishes each one the men about the superiority of women as she finally chooses one and sends the others on their way.
