Il Triunfo del Dio Denaro was originally written in 1728 by Pierre Marivaux and the piece presents the epic battle between Apollo the oracular god, and Plutus the god of wealth. The gods vie for the hand of the beautiful Aminta in which Plutus challenges Apollo by stating that he will win with his material resources while Apollo wages everything on the belief that Aminta loves him as a pauper. Despite the play's title, the outcome is not what one expects, especially when trying to understand what wealth truly is.
