On the island of Madeira, there are three major teams, Nacional, Marítimo and União. União was first established as a football club in 1913 and since then it has not exactly been a powerhouse in Portuguese football, as it has primarily played in lower divisions. However, the team re-entered the "Top-Flight" in 2015 and it plays home games at the Centro Desportivo da Madeira in the town of Ribeira Brava. The team’s colors are blue and yellow and its fans as well as the players are known as Unionistas.
