Monaghan United is a football club which was founded in 1979 in the town of Monaghan, Ireland. It debuted in the League of Ireland B Division in 1983, where it exhibited its prowess and dominated the field. The club continued to play with the same level of dedication and paved its way into the Premier Division in 1993. Its journey in the top league was filled with relegations, but the club always kept coming back. In 2012, the club resigned from the league, but it is still very much a part of the game. The club has an impressive women’s team which competes in the Dublin Women's Soccer League and uses the Gortakeegan as its home ground.
