Xanthi F.C. is a football club that was created in 1967 when two clubs, Orfeas Xanthi and Aspida Xanthi, merged to play as a single entity. The club won its first Gamma Ethniki title in 1986 and since then has progressed at a spectacular pace. It took home the Beta Ethniki title in 1989 and in the same year, the Alpha Ethinki(first division) welcomed the club with open arms. The team has continued to maintain its position in the Alpha Ethinki and has also competed in the Europa League many times.
