Once a powerhouse of German football, Dynamo Dresden is now a dominant force in the second tier. Founded in 1953 in what was then the East German city of Dresden, the club was quick to assert its dominance over the league and was one of the to teams until the onset of the 1990s. After the reunification of Germany and the restructuring of the league, Dynamo Dresden lost its position at the top and was relegated to the 2. Bundesliga in 1995. Since then it has been on a quest to reclaim its position as one of the best clubs in Germany.
