FC Istres was established in 1920 as SS Istréenne. The original club merged with another team named Istres Sports in 1969 to produce FC Istres in its current form. The biggest highlight in the club's history was securing promotion into Ligue 1 for the first time in 2004, after spending most of its years in the lower divisions. The team plays its home matches at Stade Parsemain.
