A couch in New York is a comedy by Chanel Akerman about two people who, without ever having met each other, decide to swop each other's apartments for a vacation. Beatrice goes to New York whereas Henry moves into Beatrice's apartment in Paris. Despite the fact that both want to escape their hectic lives and jobs, they soon find themselves lapsing back into their old habits. When the two chat about their experiences over the phone, they end up falling in love with each other.
