Umbra et Imago is a dark wave band that blends gothic metal and neue deutsche Harte into one intense style. Formed in 1991 in Karlsruhe, Germany the band developed a reputation for its sexual, bondage-themed shows, which pair nicely with its industrial metal sound. Umbra et Imago released its debut album, Infantile Spiele, in 1993. The album establishing the band's creepy, abrasive aesthetic that has been carried through all its records, from 2004's Memento Mori to 2011, Davon geht die Welt nicht unter.
