Élan Béarnais Pau-Lacq-Orthez is one of the strongest clubs that compete in the LNB Pro A. The club, which is popularly known as Élan Béarnais, is based in the commune of Pau and plays its games at the Palais des Sports de Pau. The club began was founded in 1931 as Élan Béarnais Orthez but has been known by its current name since 2008. After playing in the lower leagues in its early years, the club made its debut in the LNB Pro A in 1973. In 1984, it broke into a new level of popularity by winning the FIBA Korać Cup. The club eventually went on to make several achievements like winning the French Cup and LNB Pro A multiple times.
