Chico Buarque de Hollanda, is a Brazilian artist from Rio de Janeiro. Although he is more famous for his songs, which often discuss the Brazilian society, economy and culture, Buarque is also a well-known dramatist, poet and novel writer. Son of the academic Sérgio Buarque de Hollanda, he lived and studied in many different countries during his childhood, and came into music through the Bossa Nova compositions of João Gilberto and Tom Jobim.
