Soul Doctor is a musicasl theater production that tells the unlikely story of Shlomo Carlebach, the father of Jewish pop music, and his friendship with the legendary Nina Simone. After escaping Nazi Germany as a young Rabbi, Carlebach befriended Simone, who exposed him to the life-changing powers of soul and gospel music. As he rose to recognition during the 1960s for his distinctive melodies and transformative storytelling prowess, he struggled to reconcile his traditional beliefs with the the free-spirit generation he helped create.
