It's Only a Play is a comedy production written by Terrence McNally that takes place at the opening night party of a new play called The Golden Egg. Gathered at the luxurious penthouse of rookie producer Julia Budder, the director, cast, playwright and various attendees wait anxiously for the first reviews of their show. With the leading lady on drugs, the writer's competitive friend lurking around and a jealous, talentless critic stirring up the pot, drama ensues but does not shake the passion behind the show's creative forces.
