Slavia Praha is undoubtedly one of the Czech Republic's most successful football clubs. Established in 1892, the club wasted little time in making its presence felt in the national league. By 1930, it had stamped its authority over the first division, bagging several trophies along the way. While its domestic run was impressive, the team was yet to make an impact in Europe, a feat it achieved in the 1995–96 season, when it reached the UEFA Cup semi-finals. A decade later it made its first ever Champions League appearance and cemented its position among the giants of Europe. Through its history the team has fielded a number of iconic footballers, including Vladimír Šmicer, Patrik Berger and Karel Poborský.
