Istra 1961 competes in the Prva HNL, which is the top-tier football competition of Croatia. The team plays its home games at the Aldo Drosina stadium and is based in Istria County’s largest city, Pula. The club was originally named NK Uljanik and was founded in 1948. A few years later, in 1961, it merged with NK Pula and thus NK Istra was formed. The team started using its current name in 2007. Even with so many major changes, the team managed to carve an illustrious history. It has won the Croatian Second Division and the Croatian Third Division league. It has also delivered memorable performances at the Croatian Cup matches.
