Club Sport Cartaginés competes in the Liga de Fútbol de Primera División - the top tier football league of Costa Rica. It plays its home games at the Jose Rafael Fello Meza stadium. The team was founded in 1906 and it made its debut in professional football in 1914 as Americano. It reverted to the original name in 1921 before entering the Primera División (Liga FPD) games. While the team shared the Costa Rican football scene with many major teams, it was never bogged down by the competition. In its more than a hundred year old history, the team has managed to win the Primera División title and the Costa Rican Cup many times. Its other impressive wins also includes the CONCACAF Champions' Cup.
