Boavista F.C. is one of the oldest clubs in Portugal as it was established in 1903. The team is from the great city of Porto and players take the pitch at the Estádio do Bessa. The checkered black and white jerseys have earned the team the nickname "The Checkered Ones," and they are also known as the Panthers. Throughout its history, Boavista has had many ups-and-downs with constant relegations to the Segunda Divisão (Second Division), however the team won the Primeira Liga championship in 2001, beating rival and neighbor F.C. Porto. Boavista, along with the Belenenses, are the only two teams outside of the "Big Three" to have won the Primeira Liga championship since 1934.
