Founded in 1908, Clube Atlético Mineiro is one of the oldest Brazilian football clubs that is currently active from the city of Belo Horizonte. The club competes in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A and also the state league - Campeonato Mineiro. Popularliy known as Atlético Mineiro, the club plays its home games at the Estádio Independência and shares a fierce rivalry with Cruzeiro, with the fixture between these two clubs being labelled as Clássico Mineiro. The club has a very impressive local history and currently holds the record for most Campeonato Mineiro championships at 44 along with one title each of Campeonato Brasileiro Série A and Copa do Brasil. Winners of two Copa CONMEBOL trophies and one Copa Libertadores and Recopa Sudamericana trophies each, the club represented South America at the 2014 FIFA Club World Cup. Legendary players like Ronaldinho, Cláudio Taffarel and Reinaldo have featured for this club.
