The Golden Dawn is a rock and roll outfit that helped pioneer the psychedelic rock genre when it emerged out of Austin, Texas in 1966. The group released its debut album, Power Plant, in 1968, on the heals of the 13th Floor Elevator's iconic debut, Psychedelic Sounds of The 13th Floor Elevators. Alhough The Golden Dawn's LP was recorded first, it was largely viewed as a 13th Floor knock-off, ultimately leading to the band's untimely dissolution. Despite the band's short tenure, its cult status grew with each subsequent year and neo-psychedelic revival. With chief songwriter and vocalist George Kinney still at the helm, The Golden Dawn reformed in 2002 and finally claimed its long overdue recognition as psychedelic forefathers after the release of its sophomore album, Texas Medicine, in 2006.
