White City is a punk-inspired rock band based in Kabul, Afghanistan. Led by English vocalist Ruth Owen, formerly of Echobelly, the group was initially formed in 2007 under the name The Taliband before adopting its chosen moniker. Through various lineups, White City has experimented with elements of jazz and progressive rock, resulting in a seasoned alternative rock sound and a diverse following. Without having released any recorded material, the band embarked on its 2011 Big in the Stans Tour, on which it stopped at every country ending in "stan." After playing the final show of the tour in Pakistan, the group recorded and released its debut EP, Space Cadet, in 2012.
