Formed in 1887, Club de Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata is a professional football club that features in the Primera Division of the Argentine Football League. It is one of the oldest clubs in the Americas and has featured in the Primera Division for 73 seasons. Based in La Plata, it plays its home games at the Estadio Juan Carmelo Zerillo and is also known as El Lobo and Los Triperos. The club has not only won the Primera Division Championship in its history, but has also won the Copa Centenario de la AFA in 1993 by beating River Plate in the finals. Gustavo Barros Schelotto and Lucas Lobos are a few notable alumni of this team while the legendary Diego Maradona has been its manager.
