Sugar Ray is an alternative rock band from Newport Beach, California that achieve fame in the late 1990s with a string of mainstream crossover pop rock songs. Founded in 1986, the group initially started off with a distinctive funk metal sound, but after languishing in obscurity for a while, the band decided to incorporate a palpably listener friendly style. Sugar Ray's 1997 LP, Floored, proved to be the band's proving ground, with the massively popular song, "Fly." Able to maintain cultural sway throughout the 1990s, Sugar Ray has since fallen into America's post-modern cultural static. Nevertheless, the band still occasionally releases albums of original material and will frequently tour, performing it's classic songs to audiences who remember them fondly.
